Hajin

Hajin is the DMZ map of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, an exclusion zone where Russia, North Korea and South Korea meet, with 13 major points of interest from the 14th Political Prison and Chang-san Air Base in the North Korean west to The Grid and the Haneul Nuclear Reactor in the South Korean east. It becomes a Warzone Battle Royale map in Season 1.

Hajin is the map of DMZ in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4: a contested exclusion zone "nestled within a tri-point region bordering Russia and the Korean peninsula", in the words of Activision's June reveal (Jun 6, 2026), which calls it "one of the largest and most ambitious Call of Duty environments ever built". The official Hajin deep dive (Oct 5, 2026) lists 13 major points of interest and "over 60 named locations". The west is North Korean, rural and military; the east is a modern South Korean city and a damaged nuclear reactor, as Dexerto's map breakdown (Oct 5, 2026) puts it. This page covers the regions, every major area with its threat level, the places marked on the map, the bosses and the ways out. How the mode works is on DMZ.

The map at a glance

Before launch Activision named four headline regions: "the irradiated Fallout reactor", "the highly secured Prison complex", "the remains of Hajin City" and "the heavily defended Military Base" (Jun 6, 2026). The full map is larger: GameSpot's review calls Hajin "the largest map ever created for Call of Duty", bigger than Verdansk and Black Ops 7's Avalon.

Joe Cecot, Infinity Ward's Studio Multiplayer Creative Director, called it "by far leaps and bounds the most interesting map we've ever made" in an Xbox Wire interview (Jun 7, 2026), and gave a hidden space as an example: a hole in a police station armory that leads underwater.

Finding your way uses the Tac-Map's grid: letters run west to east and numbers north to south, so D7 is Imjin Farmland, and every Key names its grid square in its description, per the Oct 5 deep dive. Expressway No. 1, "the main freeway across Hajin", runs east to west south of Cheongun Village and north of the hospital. Building colors help too: red for Fire Stations, blue for Police Stations, green for Clinics, and North and South Korean buildings look different.

The weather changes from run to run. Sudden downpours cut visibility, and fog banks and overcast skies make familiar routes harder to follow (Jun 6, 2026). GameSpot (Oct 20, 2026) adds that fog blinds the AI as well as players, while rain slightly dulls enemy awareness but makes your wet footsteps louder.

The 13 major points of interest

Each area has its own Threat Level, shown under the compass, from Low to Extreme. The table lists the 13 in Activision's order with the threat each part of the area is expected to have.

Area Where Side Threat level
14th Political Prison Northwest North Prison High, Fortress Prison Yard High, The Citadel Critical
Chang-san Air Base West North Exterior Critical, Bunker Extreme
Deadtown Southwest North Exterior Low, Re-Education Center Medium
Imjin Farmland South-southwest South Farmland Low, Jeong Loading Dock Low, Rice Mill Medium
Cheongun Village North South Village, outskirts and border crossing Low; Heavenly Luck Casino High
Mirae General Hospital North central South Low
Cheonwang Peak Array Central South Medium
Haneul Nuclear Reactor Northeast South Reactor High (radiation), South Korean Border Zone Medium
NuriGO Mall Northeast Hajin City South NuriGO East Medium, NuriGO West High
The Grid Central Hajin City South The Grid Critical, Netshin Tech Complex Extreme, DBN Headquarters, Hanex Bank, Minsok Art School and Construction Zone Critical
Songdo Wharf East Hajin City South Low (wharf, Oamsik Turtle Island, Shoreline Station)
Wolves Stadium South central Hajin City South Medium
Hajin River Heights Southeast South Medium (with South Island and Jinseo Park Towers)

Sources: Call of Duty, Oct 5, 2026, Dexerto, Oct 5, 2026. The official post spells two names two ways ("Haneul" and "Hanuel", "Nenshin" and "Netshin"); this page follows its headings and Dexerto's key names.

North Korean areas

14th Political Prison is a concrete-walled plateau with watchtowers at every corner, a polluted river on the west, the main gate and checkpoint on the south and barracks on the east. Inside the yard stands The Citadel, a Y-shaped fortress of gantries, walkways, "repatriation chambers", a huge furnace and cell blocks (Oct 5 deep dive).

Chang-san Air Base is built into a granite hillside over a bunker and tunnel complex larger than the base on the surface. Above ground are a hospital, a helipad, a jet runway, barracks, supply depots and an ornate command building; cliffs guard the east, bunker doors sit under the hill to the south, and recon teams have reached it through the woods on the high ground to the south. Its bunker is one of the two Extreme areas on the map.

Deadtown is a deserted farming township with a sewer system, two Re-Education Centers, a Clinic and a Gas Station at each end of town. It is one of the safer places to start.

South Korean areas outside the city

Imjin Farmland is a low floodplain of rice fields with long sightlines; the Rice Mill is the key high ground. It is also the Ground War map of the same name.

Cheongun Village is the northernmost South Korean area, beside the Russian border crossing. Its Heavenly Luck Casino is a multi-floor building with an underground parking lot and gambling halls, many without power, where "use of NVGs is encouraged" (Oct 5 deep dive). The casino has a vault you can try to break into "without attracting a rival squad's attention" (Jun 6, 2026); Dexerto's Counting Room Vault guide says the key is a random drop, more likely in high-threat areas, and the room is through the ground floor's right-hand door and the double doors where the money counters are.

Mirae General Hospital has triage tents, temporary barracks, a parking structure, a train station and color-coded wards and stairwells. Cheonwang Peak Array is Hajin's largest telecommunications array, the DBN TV station's, taken over as barracks, with a helipad on the roof.

Haneul Nuclear Reactor is where the meltdown happened. The breach centers on the containment block and Reactor 02, while "Reactor 01 remains stable - for now." You need radiation protection and a gas mask; the way in is by water or through a tunnel from Compound Delta to the southwest (Oct 5 deep dive). Cecot told Xbox Wire that some items can only be looted there.

Hajin City

NuriGO Mall has Han-Go Korean BBQ, a police station, a clinic, City Hall, a monorail station and a large underground mall where night vision helps. The Grid is the walled, fortified business district at the center of the city and the most dangerous urban ground: Donpyeong Gate, the DBN TV tower ("the tallest building in Hajin"), a red-roofed twin high-rise tech complex, Hotel Lucera and the Year of the Fire Horse statue, with fighting from rooftop to rooftop and street to street.

Songdo Wharf has the La Grande Vie luxury tower, a traditional market, a pier and lighthouse, and working train and monorail lines. Wolves Stadium sits near Baseball Stadium B Station, the Ginyeom-il Bridge and a Police Station; its northern edge, against The Grid, is the dangerous part. It is also a Ground War map. Hajin River Heights in the southeast has an apartment block turned into a military base, Compound Echo, and a lone comms tower on South Island.

Smaller places

The official deep dive names eight minor points of interest: the Hajin River, whose tributaries rise in the western mountains and reach the sea near the reactor and Songdo Wharf; Tong-il Village, a farming community on the north delta with a statue of a past leader; Revolution Dam, intact and guarded by military police, northwest of Tong-il; Pyonghwa Village, west of the river, with a half-destroyed pontoon bridge for vehicles; Imjin Suburb, a farmworkers' hamlet by the railroad; Mujin Pass, farmland between two forests with the hospital to the north and the array to the south, where snipers are expected; Daesong Ridge, a rural settlement of burned-out APCs northeast of Imjin Farmland; and Namjin Riverside on the southern edge, with abandoned cars by an exit tunnel. Hanrim Village, Compound Delta, Compound Echo and the North and South Korean wilderness are named too.

Places marked on the map

The Tac-Map marks the places you will use every match, as the Oct 5 deep dive lists them:

  • Gas Stations repair and refuel ground and air vehicles; Marine Gas Stations do the same for boats.
  • Fire Stations (red) are where to look for radiation gear and parachutes.
  • Police Stations (blue) hold military gear and a locked Armory.
  • Clinics (green) may hold medical loot, and players waiting to ambush the wounded.
  • Ammo and Armor Caches refill ammunition and plates, then cool down.
  • UAV Towers pay DMZ Cash and reveal nearby players and enemies; since the Oct 21 update you can take them back from enemy control.
  • Compounds are fortified positions with better loot and intel, some with armored vehicles.
  • Bounty Stations let you read Bounties on other players or pay off your own (see DMZ Bounties and Dynamic Ops).
  • SAM Sites can be hacked and held; a captured battery shoots down enemy aircraft, "particularly useful against Deathstalkers".
  • Lieutenant Hunts: a laptop at the top of a tall comms tower reveals a nearby Lieutenant.

Loot follows the building: police stations hold combat gear, hospitals scarce medicine, homes crafting resources (Jun 6, 2026). Locked doors often have another way in, and woods and farmland hide underground entrances.

Enemies and threat

Hajin is held by "a secretive North Korean faction". The official enemy list runs from Tier 1 grunts through armored and gas-masked soldiers to Tier 4 faceless armored troops, plus drone swarms, a machine-gun drone, robot K9s (usually underground), helicopter patrols and road convoys. Cecot told Xbox Wire that Tier 1 enemies wear no armor or helmet, so the first fights are not hard, while Tier 3 are "white gas mask looking guys with this garbled voice". As the threat rises the enemy sends helicopters, heavier troops and in the end Deathstalkers; fill the Hostiles Kill Count meter and a Hunt Squad marks you "Marked for Death".

Lieutenants and Commanders

Lieutenants are named bosses with their own weapons and sometimes a few loyal troops. Activision's stories name three: Gorani, a sniper in a ghillie suit wearing a water deer skull, in the high woods above Hanrim Village; Bale, "a hardened Spetsnaz veteran" training troops at Chang-san Air Base; and the Warden, whose key opened a sealed door beneath NuriGO Mall (Oct 5 deep dive). Dexerto's enemy guide lists ten Lieutenants and where they are: Gorani at Mujin Pass, The Chemist at the reactor, Jin-Tae at the casino, The Doctor at the hospital, Bale at the Re-Education Center, Iskra at Cheonwang Peak Array, the Scavenger anywhere near dead players, Roze at DBN Headquarters, Jang-Ui at the Netshin Tech Complex and the Warden at The Citadel. Where Dexerto and Activision's stories differ (Bale, Gorani, the Warden), check both before you go hunting.

Commanders roam Hajin all the time, and intel on them cannot be bought. The FOB deep dive names three: the Colossus, "a seven-foot tall, heavily armored soldier" with a minigun; the Deathstalker, a helicopter-sized drone with two machine-gun turrets; and a North Korean battle tank. Dexerto places the Colossus around Cheongun Village or Songdo Wharf, the Deathstalker around NuriGO Mall or DBN Headquarters, and the tank roaming the South Korean side. GameSpot says heavy metal music means the Colossus is near. In the clip, from June's COD POD, Infinity Ward still calls the armored soldier the Juggernaut, then describes the tank.

Getting around and getting out

Hajin has cars, trucks, the armored LTV and the Aston Martin Dreadnought, a boat (the RHIB) and helicopters, all with limited armor and fuel; an automated train links South Korean areas and a monorail loops Hajin City, neither of which you drive (Oct 5 deep dive). Exfil sites change every match and are marked with green smoke: call the helicopter, hold the site, board it. A Flare or a Fulton balloon gets you out anywhere, at the cost of noise.

What is beyond the border

The fog-filled Russian Border north across the Hajin River cannot be entered at launch, says the Oct 5 deep dive. Dexerto reports that a third, Russian area will open in Season 2; Activision has not said so in writing as of Oct 25, 2026. What is official is that Hajin comes to Warzone as a Battle Royale map in Season 1 (Aug 21, 2026); see Warzone Integration.
