Captain Price

In Modern Warfare 4, Captain John Price is an outlaw: Task Force 141 is disbanded after he killed General Shepherd in Modern Warfare 3, and he allies with Valeria Garza's Las Almas cartel to hunt the arms dealer known as the Archer while Ghost and Gaz are sent to capture or kill him. Barry Sloane plays him in his fourth Modern Warfare game.

Captain John Price is one of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's two leads, and this time he is the hunted man: "With Task Force 141 disbanded and former allies hunting him, Captain Price is on the run," and he is "Forced into an uneasy alliance with Valeria Garza" (Call of Duty, read Oct 25, 2026). Activision calls him "operator-turned outlaw John Price," on "a hunt for the one pulling the strings" (Call of Duty, Oct 16, 2026), and studio co-head Mark Grigsby put it plainly: "Price is out of the system" (PCGamesN, Jul 25, 2026). Barry Sloane plays him, as in every game of the rebooted series since Modern Warfare (2019). His missions alternate with Private Park's war in Korea (Story). In the clip, from Infinity Ward's From The Ward series, the studio recalls Price's 2019 line about drawing the line and calls him an outlaw after the events of the last game.

How Price became an outlaw

Price's story in the rebooted series runs through three games, which Activision retold before launch (Call of Duty, Sep 16, 2026). In Modern Warfare (2019) he and Gaz respond to Al-Qatala's attack on Piccadilly Circus, and afterward he requests the files of Gaz, Soap and Ghost to form Task Force 141 with Kate Laswell's support. In Modern Warfare 2 (2022) Shadow Company's Phillip Graves betrays the task force in Las Almas. In Modern Warfare 3 (2023) Makarov shoots Soap beneath London, and Price assassinates General Shepherd, then goes underground to hunt Makarov. The clip is the recap that opens the campaign in Gamer's Little Playground's playthrough, from Shepherd pulling the files for Task Force 141 to Graves and Makarov.

The task force is disbanded because Price went on the run after killing Shepherd (Call of Duty, Sep 17, 2026). Modern Warfare 4 opens his side of the story with "a lengthy recap video" of those events (PC Gamer, Oct 16, 2026). Activision's pre-launch summary: "AWOL and off the grid, John Price teams up with the Las Almas cartel" to hunt a global threat while North Korea invades the South (Call of Duty, Sep 16, 2026). In MrRoflWaffles' clip a news report names the SAS captain John Price as the subject of a manhunt, and Laswell tells him, "You're still a wanted man."

Price's role in Modern Warfare 4

Steam's store text calls him "a vengeful Captain Price" who "wages a personal war from the shadows" (Steam, read Oct 25, 2026). GameSpot reads the campaign's two halves as a pair: Park, a conscript, is "a nice moral balance" to Price's revenge story (GameSpot, Oct 16, 2026).

Mission 2: Out in the Cold puts you in his boots five days before the invasion: he tails Makarov through a nightclub, over rooftops and through the streets into an alley, where it ends in a hand-to-hand fight (Windows Central, Oct 17, 2026). Kotaku notes he fights through the club and its back rooms with only a pistol (Kotaku, Oct 20, 2026). The clip is the fight with Makarov at the end of the chase.

With Valeria in Paris, the cartel does not mind "blasting through civilians," Price tries to limit the damage, and Valeria calls him "Papi" and "old man" (GameSpot, Oct 16, 2026). The missions with her are Mission 6: Traffic and Mission 7: Gone Dark, where the point of view switches to Gaz hunting Price, and Price begs Ghost and Gaz to back off. In the clip, on foot in Paris, Valeria tells Price, "Hurry up, old man."

The trailers set up his clash with his old team. Gaz: "There is a line... and it's one we don't cross." Price: "We draw the line wherever we need it, don't we?" (Call of Duty, Sep 17, 2026). GameSpot hears it as an echo of his 2019 line "You draw the line wherever you need it, Sergeant" (GameSpot, Oct 16, 2026).

Barry Sloane

Barry Sloane has played Price, voice and performance capture, since Modern Warfare (2019). When Activision introduced him that year, he said he had played Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare when it first came out and that becoming Price "has been just an incredible experience" (Activision, Sep 27, 2019). Reviewers singled out his performance in Modern Warfare 4: Game Rant's 10/10 review named his Price and Young Mazino's Park (Game Rant, Oct 23, 2026). When early access opened, Sloane thanked players and asked them for "No spoilers" (PCGamesN, Oct 18, 2026).

The COD POD episode

On Oct 16, 2026, the first day of campaign early access, Call of Duty's podcast COD POD released Ep 12, "Barry Sloane & María Elisa Camargo Bring MW4's Price and Valeria Garza to Life," a 40-minute conversation about the two performances. Its chapters include "Performance Capture Challenges," "Price's New Direction," "Price & Valeria: Unlikely Allies," "Teaching Price Spanish," "Creating Price's Iconic Voice" and "Recording Battle Chatter," and it closes on "Remember, No Spoilers." (Call of Duty on YouTube, Oct 16, 2026). The clip shows the host on the podcast's set at the start of the episode.

Price as an Operator

Price is playable in Multiplayer and DMZ through the Vault Edition's Hostile Alliance Operator Pack, with Valeria, Ghost and Blix; Price and Valeria come in masked and unmasked versions (Call of Duty, May 28, 2026). In the open beta his faction was listed as "[CLASSIFIED]" (Call of Duty, Aug 21, 2026). He is not one of the campaign's completion rewards (Call of Duty, Oct 16, 2026). See Operators and Editions and Pre-order Bonuses.

Price's fate (spoilers)

Spoilers for the end of the campaign follow. Price kills Makarov in Mission 2 and Graves in Mission 4; he is captured by the Archer in Mission 7, learns in Mission 13 that the Archer is Makarov's father, and gets Ghost to safety (Insider Gaming, Oct 20, 2026). In Mission 16: Greater Good he kills the Archer by stabbing him in the throat with a pipe, then bleeds to death from his own wounds (Game Rant, Oct 19, 2026); Ghost forgives him before he dies, and after the credits Laswell deletes his file (Insider Gaming, Oct 20, 2026). PC Gamer notes that Price "basically exits the story for the back half" (PC Gamer, Oct 16, 2026). More on Ending and Post-Credits Scene. The clip is the fight on the frozen lake in Greater Good.
