To level up fast in Modern Warfare 4, finish the campaign for three Double XP and two Double Weapon XP Tokens, play objective modes (Hardpoint, Domination, Kill Confirmed) on small maps, do and reroll your three Daily Challenges, focus one or two weapons, and count DMZ, whose XP also raises your Player Level.
The fastest way to level up in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is to stack XP sources: finish the campaign for its three Double XP Tokens and two Double Weapon XP Tokens, spend them in objective modes such as Hardpoint, Domination and Kill Confirmed on the small 6v6 maps, clear and reroll your three Daily Challenges each day, and level one or two weapons at a time. DMZ helps too, because DMZ XP counts toward your Multiplayer Player Level. Get your free XP tokens first
The campaign is the biggest free source. Its 16 completion rewards include Double XP Tokens for Following Orders (Mission 3), Survivors (Mission 9) and Decapitation (Mission 15), and Double Weapon XP Tokens for Defection (Mission 11) and Escape (Mission 13), per Activision's reward list (Oct 16, 2026). The rewards are the same on every difficulty, Game Rant confirms, so Recruit is fine if the tokens are what you want, and the campaign runs about 6 to 9 hours (GameSpot says around eight, Game Rant 8 to 9, rushing 7 to 8). Use them when you can play a long session. esports.gg (Joey Carr, Oct 19, 2026) reports that Modern Warfare 4's tokens count down only while you are in a match, not in real time as they have since 2019; Activision's posts do not say so, so check the timer in the game before relying on it.
Play objective modes
Match score feeds both your Player XP and the XP of the weapon in your hands, so modes that pay for objectives as well as kills level you faster. esports.gg names Kill Confirmed, Hardpoint and Domination as the best, with the first two ahead: pick up every dog tag in Kill Confirmed and keep attacking the hill in Hardpoint. Dot Esports (Sourav Banik, updated Oct 22, 2026) puts Hardpoint first, because holding the hill adds objective score on top of your kills, and advises against Team Deathmatch (no objective XP) and Search and Destroy (too few kills per minute) when grinding. Objective play also fills your killstreak meter in Modern Warfare 4, the Smart Streak Meter, so streak kills come sooner too. Mode rules are on Game Modes.
Pick small maps
More fights per minute means more score per minute. Dot Esports names the smallest Core maps for weapon leveling: Rooftops, Silkworm, Transit 213, Cachette and Lotus. It also suggests queuing Kill Block for constant gunfights; at launch Kill Block plays only 3v3 and 10v10 Gunfight (Kill Block). Shipment, the classic tiny map, joins on Oct 27, 2026 (Shipment). Do your Daily Challenges
Modern Warfare 4 gives three Daily Challenges each day for XP, with a bonus for finishing all three and one reroll per day. Reroll the one that does not suit how you play, as Dot Esports advises. There are no Weekly Challenges in Season 1: Infinity Ward's launch patch notes say Events take their place, with rewards such as Apex Attachments, camos, Calling Cards and Operator Skins, and the first Event began on launch day.
Level weapons the smart way
Attachments in Modern Warfare 4 are shared: unlock one on any weapon and it is unlocked on every weapon that uses it, and a later weapon level that would award an attachment you already own is skipped with a Bonus Level Up. That makes your first few guns the slowest. esports.gg recommends taking three to five weapons, ideally from different classes, to max level first, which unlocks a wide set of shared attachments and lets later weapons skip many levels. Dot Esports adds a session rule: one primary and one backup, using the Overkill perk to carry two primaries, rather than spreading kills over five guns.
Spend Double Weapon XP Tokens early in a weapon's levels, esports.gg suggests, when each level is quick and most of the shared attachments are still ahead. Max level unlocks the weapon's Apex Attachment and Weapon Prestige, and the camos come with the levels (Camos, Gunsmith and Attachments).
Use DMZ
DMZ XP counts toward the Level 1 to 55 Player Level as well as DMZ's own 70-level track, and weapon levels, attachments and camos earned in DMZ carry into Multiplayer. esports.gg says weapon levels "fly by" in DMZ, with a catch: lose the fight and you lose that weapon, and buying it back costs cash you may have to earn in another match. Prestige for the XP boost
Once you reach Level 55, Classic Prestige gives a 20% XP boost and a Permanent Unlock Token but relocks your level unlocks; Regular Prestige keeps everything without the boost. If speed is the goal and you can live without your late unlocks for a while, Classic is the faster climb. See Prestige.
