Campaign Rewards and Difficulty
Each of Modern Warfare 4's 16 missions gives one reward for Multiplayer and DMZ: 8 Base Operators, 3 Double XP Tokens, 2 Double Weapon XP Tokens, a Calling Card, a Loading Screen and an Emblem. Rewards are the same on any of the six difficulties (Recruit, Regular, Hardened, Veteran, Realism, YOLO); only beating YOLO adds the "YOLO Completer" Calling Card.
Every mission of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's campaign unlocks one reward you can use in Multiplayer and DMZ, 16 in all: eight Base Operators (Cho, Dallas, Luca, Oh-Ji, Kal, Dunn, West and Park), three Double XP Tokens, two Double Weapon XP Tokens, the "No More Rules" Calling Card, the "Ready Line" Loading Screen and the "Gone Dark" Emblem (Call of Duty, Oct 16, 2026). They are the same on any difficulty: the game has six, from Recruit to YOLO, and only finishing on YOLO adds an extra reward, the "YOLO Completer" Calling Card (Game Rant, Oct 19, 2026). For the missions themselves see Campaign Walkthrough.

Source: Call of Duty, Oct 16, 2026, Activision's official list. Game Rant's list matches it (Game Rant, Oct 19, 2026). Insider Gaming's list gives Mission 11 a Double XP Token and spells the loading screen "Ready Live"; Activision's list is followed here.
Where the rewards go
The completion rewards became usable in Multiplayer and DMZ at full launch on Oct 23, 2026, so players who finished the campaign during early access, from Oct 16, found them waiting at launch (Call of Duty, Oct 16, 2026). No weapon blueprints are among them (Game Rant, Oct 19, 2026).
Operators. 33 Operators are in the game at launch, usable in Multiplayer and DMZ, and for the first time each loadout has its own Operator, chosen at the top of the loadout in Create-a-Class (Call of Duty, Oct 19, 2026). Activision's Operator list places the campaign Operators in their factions: Dallas in Shadow Company, Luca and Oh-Ji in Valeria's Strike Cell, and Dunn and West in JSOF. More on Operators.
XP tokens. The five tokens speed up your level and your weapons: Double XP for player XP, Double Weapon XP for leveling guns (Call of Duty, Oct 19, 2026). Activision's reward list does not give their length. How to spend them well is on How to Level Up Fast.
The six difficulties
| Difficulty | What changes | How to unlock |
|---|---|---|
| Recruit | For new players: story over challenge | Available |
| Regular | A middle ground | Available |
| Hardened | Enemies are more aggressive | Available |
| Veteran | Enemies more aggressive, with more health, more damage and much better accuracy | Available |
| Realism | Veteran enemies, a limited HUD (no HUD, per PowerPyx), lower player health, friendly fire, no teammate markers | Finish the campaign on any difficulty |
| YOLO | Realism rules with one life: dying or failing an objective sends you back to Mayhem | Finish the campaign on Realism |
Sources: Game Rant, Oct 19, 2026; PowerPyx, Oct 18, 2026.
You can switch difficulty at any time from the pause menu with "Change Difficulty" (Game Rant, Oct 19, 2026). There are no manual saves, only one campaign autosave (PowerPyx, Oct 18, 2026).
Veteran
Veteran is the hardest of the four difficulties open from the start. It gives no extra reward: mission rewards are the same on every difficulty, and there is none for Veteran or Realism (Game Rant, Oct 19, 2026). It matters for trophies: Can't Touch This, beating Makarov in Mission 2: Out in the Cold without being hit, needs Veteran or higher, and Safety's On and Revenge need Hardened or higher (Insider Gaming, Oct 19, 2026). Was it Worth It? needs a full run on Realism. See Trophies and Achievements.
YOLO and the YOLO Completer card
YOLO is Realism with one life for the whole campaign: die or fail an objective and you start again at Mayhem. Pausing and choosing "Restart Level" restarts only the current mission (Game Rant, Oct 19, 2026). Some choices also count: refusing to shoot Graves in Mission 4: Hired Gun, which on other difficulties only sends you back a checkpoint, sends you back to the start of the campaign on YOLO (Game Rant, Oct 19, 2026). Finishing YOLO earns the animated "YOLO Completer" Calling Card, the only reward tied to a difficulty (Game Rant, Oct 19, 2026). No trophy needs YOLO. The clip is the standoff with Graves in Hired Gun, from MrRoflWaffles' playthrough, as Graves offers to clear Price's name for the case.
How long it takes
A first run takes about 6 to 9 hours: GameSpot finished in "around eight hours" on normal difficulty (GameSpot, Oct 15, 2026), and Game Rant puts the average at 8 to 9 hours, or 7 to 8 rushing on an easier difficulty (Game Rant, Oct 16, 2026). PowerPyx timed its Realism run at about 7 hours (PowerPyx, Oct 18, 2026). The rewards come with the first run on any difficulty, so Recruit is the quickest way to all 16.
