Characters and Cast

Modern Warfare 4's cast is led by Barry Sloane as Captain Price, Young Mazino as Private Park Hyun Jun, Maria Elisa Camargo as Valeria Garza and Mads Mikkelsen as the villain known as the Archer, with Samuel Roukin (Ghost), Elliot Knight (Gaz), Rya Kihlstedt (Laswell), Prisca Kim (Ri Ju-Young) and Lanny Joon (Ko Jin Hyuk).

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's main characters are Private Park Hyun Jun (played by Young Mazino), a South Korean conscript, and Captain John Price (Barry Sloane), now an outlaw, with Valeria Garza (Maria Elisa Camargo) as Price's uneasy ally and Mads Mikkelsen as the arms dealer known as "the Archer" (GameSpot, May 29, 2026; Dexerto, read Oct 25, 2026). The cast splits along the campaign's two stories: Park's squad and the North Korean army in Korea, and Price, Task Force 141 and the cartel abroad (Story). Roles below are spoiler-free; a marked section at the end says who dies. The clip is Activision's Campaign Trailer, from the hunt for Price and his work with the cartel to Laswell's warning about the Archer.

Park and his squad

Private Park Hyun Jun is "a young South Korean soldier facing live combat for the first time alongside his squad" (Call of Duty, Jun 12, 2026), a conscript whom GameSpot calls "a nice moral balance" to Price's revenge story (GameSpot, Oct 16, 2026). Infinity Ward calls his arc a "zero to hero journey" (Insider Gaming, May 28, 2026). Young Mazino played Jesse in HBO's The Last of Us and starred in Beef (GameSpot, May 29, 2026), and Game Rant's 10/10 review singled out his Park alongside Sloane's Price (Game Rant, Oct 23, 2026). In the clip, from Infinity Ward's From The Ward series, the developers describe Park as a conscript who never asked for the war.

Park's squad is Sierra-1. In the opening, the South Korean conscripts serve with two American Marines, Corporal Joseph Dunn and First Lieutenant Reggie West, who has introduced them to Wu-Tang Clan's "C.R.E.A.M." (Windows Central, Oct 17, 2026). PC Gamer reads the squad as familiar types: "a serious guy, an audience insert who doesn't talk much, an American who fills every silence with a joke" (PC Gamer, Oct 16, 2026). Luke Tennie, who plays West, is Sean in Apple TV's Shrinking (GameSpot, May 29, 2026). The ROK Marine sergeant So Jae-Woo is the "Sgt. Jae" whom you follow up the beach in Mission 12: Counter Attack. In theRadBrad's playthrough the squad trades jabs about Wu-Tang and heavy metal on patrol, and the lieutenant says, "You want to be a better Marine, listen to Wu."

Price, Task Force 141 and Laswell

Captain John Price is "Former leader of Task Force 141, now working independently," played again by Barry Sloane (Dexerto, read Oct 25, 2026). After killing General Shepherd in Modern Warfare 3 he is on the run, and he now wears "a full beard instead of his ridiculous mustache" (GamesRadar+, Oct 16, 2026). His own page is Captain Price.

Ghost (Samuel Roukin) and Gaz (Elliot Knight) are what remains of Task Force 141, "tasked to capture or kill their former captain," while CIA Station Chief Kate Laswell (Rya Kihlstedt) "remains in touch with the operator-turned-outlaw" (Call of Duty, Sep 17, 2026). In Mission 7: Gone Dark the game switches to Gaz as he hunts Price through a dark building (GameSpot, Oct 16, 2026).

Valeria, Graves and Makarov

Valeria Garza, leader of the Las Almas Cartel and also known as "El Sin Nombre," returns from Modern Warfare 2 with Maria Elisa Camargo reprising the role (GameSpot, May 29, 2026). She is Price's partner of convenience: her cartel does not mind "blasting through civilians," Price tries to limit the damage, and she calls him "Papi" and "old man" (GameSpot, Oct 16, 2026). Her trailer line: "Why sit on the high ground and watch the world burn when we can fight fire with fire?" (Call of Duty, Sep 17, 2026).

Inside a dim vehicle, a bearded man in a knit cap and tactical gear holds a rifle with a tan grip upright, beside a woman with dark hair pulled back who looks across at someone at the right edge.

Phillip Graves (Warren Kole), the Shadow Company commander who betrayed Task Force 141 in Modern Warfare 2, and Vladimir Makarov (Julian Kostov), the Konni Group's ultranationalist leader, return from the earlier games (Dexerto, read Oct 25, 2026; Call of Duty, Sep 16, 2026). Graves is the boss of Mission 4: Hired Gun, and Makarov is the melee boss of Mission 2: Out in the Cold.

The Archer

Mads Mikkelsen plays "the Archer," a "Mercenary and Black Market arms dealer" (Dexerto, read Oct 25, 2026). Activision revealed him at the end of the Tokyo Game Show campaign trailer on Sep 17, 2026, threatening to make Price "cry for mercy"; his earlier game roles include Cliff Unger in Death Stranding (Game Rant, Sep 17, 2026). PC Gamer found him underused (PC Gamer, Oct 16, 2026).

The North Korean side

Commander Ri Ju-Young (Prisca Kim, of Beef and Loot) leads the invasion; her trailer line is "Shut down the peninsula, then we invade" (Call of Duty, Sep 17, 2026). Her brother Ri Seung-Ho (Jeongmin Cho) is Supreme Leader (Dexerto, read Oct 25, 2026; Game Rant, Oct 19, 2026). Lieutenant Ko Jin Hyuk (Lanny Joon, of Baby Driver) is a North Korean officer whose story runs through Mission 3: Following Orders and Mission 8: Assassins; GamesRadar+ called Joon's Ko "a stellar performance" (GamesRadar+, Oct 16, 2026).

Behind the cast

Grigsby said South Korean advisors guided dialect, culture and casting (PCGamesN, Jul 25, 2026). The casting directors were Emily Schweber and Karan Sadow; after early access opened, the cast said they were "overwhelmed" by players' reactions, and Sloane asked fans for "No spoilers" (PCGamesN, Oct 18, 2026). Sloane and Camargo talked through their roles on the official COD POD Ep 12 on Oct 16, 2026. The clip shows the COD POD's hosts and guests around the table, then footage from a performance capture stage.

Characters as Operators

Eight Base Operators unlock for Multiplayer and DMZ when you finish their missions: Cho, Dallas, Luca, Oh-Ji, Kal, Dunn, West and Park (Call of Duty, Oct 16, 2026). Price, Valeria and Ghost are Operators in the Vault Edition's Hostile Alliance pack, with masked and unmasked skins for Price and Valeria (Call of Duty, May 28, 2026). See Campaign Rewards and Difficulty and Operators.

Who dies (spoilers)

Spoilers for the whole campaign follow. Game Rant lists eight deaths: Makarov (Mission 2: Out in the Cold, beaten to death by Price), Graves (Mission 4: Hired Gun), Valeria (Mission 7: Gone Dark, shot by the Archer), Ri Seung-Ho (Mission 8: Assassins, shot by his sister), Gaz (Mission 13: Escape, shot by the Archer), Ri Ju-Young (Mission 15: Decapitation, shot by Park), and the Archer and Price (Mission 16: Greater Good) (Game Rant, Oct 19, 2026). That leaves Ghost the only surviving member of Task Force 141. The Archer is revealed as Makarov's father (Insider Gaming, Oct 20, 2026), and Kotaku describes him as Russia's Defense Minister (Kotaku, Oct 20, 2026). Ko defects to help South Korea.
