Nintendo Switch 2 Version

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 is the full game (Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ) with cross-play and cross-progression, gyro and Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, and NVIDIA DLSS. Multiplayer targeted 60 fps in the beta, reviews of the final game scored it 90, and the physical edition is a code in a box.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 is the complete game, Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ, released on Oct 23, 2026 alongside the other versions, with cross-play and cross-progression with PS5, Xbox and PC (Call of Duty, Aug 26, 2026). Infinity Ward built it natively for the system with Digital Legends, bringing Modern Warfare to Nintendo players "for the first time in more than a decade" (Call of Duty, May 28, 2026); Dexerto counts it the first Call of Duty on a Nintendo platform since Call of Duty: Ghosts on Wii U in 2013. What the Switch 2 version includes

Activision promised content parity: Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ all ship on Switch 2, and Campaign Early Access (from Oct 16) and DMZ Early Access (from Oct 20) were offered on the eShop like everywhere else (Call of Duty, Aug 26, 2026). Nintendo Insider played Ground War: Combat Outpost on Switch 2 as a 64-player mode, the full 32v32 of the other platforms. Both the Standard ($69.99) and Vault ($99.99) Editions are sold on the eShop (Final Weapon, Aug 26, 2026); edition contents are on Editions and Pre-order Bonuses.

Online play, Multiplayer and DMZ, needs Nintendo Switch Online (Call of Duty, Aug 26, 2026), and every platform needs an Activision account. Two launch fixes were specific to Switch 2: a missing prompt that blocked the Chemical Denial Dynamic Op at NuriGO Mall in DMZ, and saved Blueprint modifications that could not be bought (Call of Duty, Oct 21, 2026). Switch 2 still needs a restart for data patches, unlike PC and PS5 (Call of Duty, Aug 19, 2026).

Performance: frame rate and image quality

No full performance analysis exists yet. As of Oct 25, 2026 Digital Foundry had published only an early static comparison, not a frame-rate test. Every frame-rate figure below is one outlet's observation, with its date.

Claim Source Date
The pre-beta build targeted 60 fps docked and handheld, with mouse mode and internal mic support BoTalksGames video, as reported by Notebookcheck Aug 21, 2026
Beta multiplayer targets 60 fps docked and handheld; mostly hit docked, handheld "rarely reaching over 45FPS"; the campaign mission was capped at 30 fps Kotaku Sep 1, 2026
A "fairly solid 30 frames per second target" in review-event play Nintendo Life (Gavin Lane), as quoted by Wccftech Oct 19, 2026
DLSS gives "cleaner lines" and sharper textures than Filmic SMAA from the same pixel data; frame-rate cost and artifacts untested Digital Foundry (Tom Morgan), as reported by Wccftech Oct 19, 2026
DMZ has "surprisingly strong performance" Nintendo Insider Oct 23, 2026

The figures disagree because they measure different things: the 60 fps target is Multiplayer in the August beta, Nintendo Life's 30 fps comes from a review event, and Kotaku found the beta campaign mission locked at 30. No outlet has published a resolution count for docked or handheld play as of Oct 25, 2026. In the clip Nintendo Life's video review says the campaign runs at 30 frames a second but feels smooth.

The graphics menu offers NVIDIA DLSS or Filmic SMAA T2X upscaling plus AMD FidelityFX Contrast Adaptive Sharpening (TweakTown, Oct 19, 2026). In the beta Kotaku called the port playable but "a blurry, unstable mess on a TV", with low-resolution textures and shimmering (Kotaku, Sep 1, 2026). Reviewers of the final game were kinder; see below. The clip is SwitchUp's side-by-side of SMAA T2X and NVIDIA DLSS on Switch 2.

Controls

The official feature list is Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, gyro controls, the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller, HDR and handheld play (Call of Duty, Aug 26, 2026). Joy-Con 2 mouse mode means aiming by sliding a Joy-Con 2 on a surface like a PC mouse. Nintendo Insider praised "gyro aiming and surprisingly adept Joy-Con 2 mouse controls", saying they give "multiple ways to play depending on your preference" (Nintendo Insider, Oct 23, 2026). Controller settings that apply on every platform are on Best Settings.

Install size and the code in a box

Activision has published no console install sizes; the Switch 2 figures come from store listings read by others and change with patches. The eShop listing showed 84.9 GB on Aug 26, 2026, more than the 64 GB maximum size of a Switch 2 cartridge, and Twisted Voxel later read 77.304 GB on Oct 13, 2026. Either way, the game is a download, so check your free storage first. Other platforms are on PC Requirements and Install Size.

The physical Switch 2 Standard Edition, on pre-order from Aug 26, 2026, is a code in a box, not a game cartridge, according to US retail listings (Final Weapon, Aug 26, 2026). Physical copies on any platform did not get Campaign or DMZ Early Access, which was for digital pre-orders only (Call of Duty, Oct 16, 2026).

The Switch 2 open beta

Switch 2 joined the second beta weekend, the Open Beta from Aug 28 at 10:00 AM PT to Sep 1 at 10:00 AM PT, with a pre-load from Aug 26; it was the first Call of Duty open beta on the system, and it required an Activision account, Nintendo Switch Online and an internet connection (Call of Duty, Aug 26, 2026). It offered Multiplayer, the campaign mission Entrenched and Warzone Resurgence on Zodiac, and every Switch 2 player could use the Vault Edition's operator packs and Signature Weapon Collection free during it. More on Open Beta.

Reviews of the port

The Switch 2 version reviewed well. On Metacritic's Switch 2 list, Nintendo Life, Nintendo Insider and What's It Like? each scored it 90 (read Oct 25, 2026). Nintendo Life's Gavin Lane headlined his review "Best-In-Class Bombast That Doesn't Shortchange Nintendo Gamers" (Nintendo Life, Oct 22, 2026). Nintendo Insider's Alex Seedhouse gave 9 out of 10 and wrote that Digital Legends "achieved the seemingly impossible". Kotaku argued in September that the port exists because Microsoft promised regulators Call of Duty would stay on other platforms (Kotaku, Sep 1, 2026); Dexerto ties it to Microsoft's 10-year agreement with Nintendo signed in February 2023 (Dexerto, May 28, 2026). The whole game's reviews are on Reception and Reviews. The clip is the verdict of Nintendo Life's video review, which ends on 9 out of 10.
