What is official
The only official mention of Ranked Play found as of Oct 25, 2026 is a passing one: a Sep 18, 2026 RICOCHET blog about the cheating business mentions a black market in "Ranked Play-ready accounts". No Activision or Infinity Ward post describes Modern Warfare 4's Ranked Play, its modes, its ruleset or its divisions. Until Activision announces it, any date or rule is a report.

Dexerto says Ranked Play is coming but has no date, and expects it in early 2027, possibly before the end of 2026. It bases that on precedent:

Dexerto also describes 4v4 matches on a Call of Duty League ruleset, Skill Rating divisions from Bronze to Iridescent, and Hardpoint, Search and Destroy and Hijack as the modes, and reports that Treyarch is building Modern Warfare 4's Ranked Play with Infinity Ward. It cites no official source for any of these, so they are reports, not confirmed features.
Competitive play until then
Until Ranked Play arrives, the closest thing in Modern Warfare 4 is Collateral, a round-based mode with a buy phase that Activision says was made for Search and Destroy fans and the competitive community (Call of Duty). Search & Destroy, Hardpoint and Hijack are all in the launch mode list. Every mode is on Game Modes, and the schedule of new content on Season 1 and Roadmap. The clip is jackfrags in a Collateral match, buying from the Buy Menu before the round.
Matchmaking in normal playlists is a separate question: Game Rant reports that some players feel skill-based matchmaking is "cranked up" at launch, after the beta had an open playlist with less of it.

In the post-credits scene, CIA officer Kate Laswell deletes the files on Gaz, Ghost and Price, erasing Task Force 141 from the record, with Ghost its last survivor.

It is part of the paid game, not free like Warzone.
