Mission 7: Gone Dark

Gone Dark is the seventh mission of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, played as Price and then Gaz: Price follows Valeria to a meeting with the Archer, Gaz clears a darkened tower with night vision, and Price fights Ghost and Gaz hand to hand; it unlocks the "Gone Dark" Emblem.

Gone Dark is the seventh mission of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and the one where Task Force 141 finally catches up with Price. It switches between two characters in three parts, "Price: Follow Valeria," "Gaz: Reach and Clear the Tower" and "Price: Deal With TF141" (TheGamer, Oct 25, 2026). Gaz's part is what GameSpot calls a "Clean House-style mission with night-vision goggles," clearing rooms in the dark with "extreme trigger discipline" to spare civilians (GameSpot, Oct 16, 2026). TheGamer's advice: be patient, check your surroundings before advancing, and use cover. Finishing it unlocks the "Gone Dark" Emblem (Call of Duty, Oct 16, 2026). The clip is Gaz's part, clearing the tower through thermal goggles.

Spoilers for Mission 7 follow.

Price: follow Valeria

Price runs with Valeria toward a tower where she is to meet the Archer, with SAS soldiers on their heels. Critical Hits' advice is to keep running rather than fight (Critical Hits, Oct 20, 2026):

  1. Follow Valeria down the alley. At the dead end, climb the drainpipe to the second floor of the building ahead; the campaign's new pipe climbing, which Insider Gaming found "flimsy" (Insider Gaming, Oct 18, 2026).
  2. Cross the housing block, brushing past the SAS soldiers who try to cut you off.
  3. Leave over the roof and keep jumping from rooftop to rooftop.
  4. Shelter with Valeria in a room while SAS air support passes: stay crouched and away from the open window. Pick up the weapon she put on the floor and throw it to her to end the part.

Gaz: reach and clear the tower

The view switches to Gaz, who is hunting Price with Ghost (GameSpot); Ghost and Gaz have been ordered to capture or kill their former captain (Call of Duty, Sep 17, 2026). Critical Hits' route (Critical Hits):

  1. The helicopter puts you on the roof. Switch on the Hybrid Thermal NVGs and clear every enemy on the roof so it can land safely.
  2. Follow Ghost to the edge and rappel down the side of the tower, shooting as you go.
  3. Inside, clear the rooms with your team. The power is out, so most enemies do not see you at first: use it for headshots.
  4. Once you have cleared a few rooms, enemies start shooting through the doors. Keep back from them, return fire, and keep clearing until control passes back to Price.

GameSpot calls the building "a dark hotel" and stresses the civilians inside, so check every target through the goggles before you fire (GameSpot).

Price: deal with TF141

The last part has no gunfire. Walk the floor while Price, Gaz and Ghost talk; GameSpot says Price begs them to back off and implies he will kill them if they do not (GameSpot). Near a window Ghost attacks, and it is a melee fight with the same parry system as the Makarov fight in Mission 2: Out in the Cold: parry his knife and his strikes, counter, and take the finisher openings. After a while Ghost and Gaz come at you together; parry everything until Gaz is taken hostage, which ends the fight (Critical Hits). Critical Hits' tip is to focus on parry timing rather than dodging.

How it ends

Insider Gaming's recap of what follows: the cartel captures Ghost and Gaz, and Price poses as a captive while the Archer meets Valeria to trade money for another EMP device. The Archer anticipates the betrayal, kills Valeria and her team, and takes Price, Ghost and Gaz prisoner (Insider Gaming, Oct 20, 2026). Game Rant lists Valeria's death here: "Shot in the head by Archer" (Game Rant, Oct 19, 2026). GameSpot adds that the mission sets up "a powerful moment in a later mission to bring the series full circle." The rest is on Story and Characters and Cast.

Reward and what comes next

Gone Dark unlocks the "Gone Dark" Emblem on any difficulty (Call of Duty). It has no trophy and no collectibles (PowerPyx, Oct 18, 2026; PowerPyx collectibles, Oct 21, 2026). Next is Mission 8: Assassins, back on the North Korean side. All missions are on Campaign Walkthrough.
