Counter Attack is Modern Warfare 4's twelfth mission, a large beach landing and push into the city in which Park's squad follows Sgt. Jae off the beach, takes an enemy hardpoint, secures a hotel and then gives sniper overwatch. Sniping all four mortar crews earns the Long Shot trophy, and finishing it gives the "Dunn" Base Operator.

Counter Attack is mission 12 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4: the counteroffensive in which you follow Sgt. Jae off a defended beach, secure an enemy hardpoint, take a hotel and finish by giving sniper overwatch, across five objectives. PC Gamer says it "ramps up the scale and intensity with a massive beachfront assault." It follows Mission 11: Defection and comes before Mission 13: Escape. Finishing it gives the "Dunn" Base Operator. In MrRoflWaffles' clip the briefing names the hotel as the enemy's communications relay and lays out the landing, the push west and the assault on the hotel.

Setting
Activision's campaign page promises amphibious assaults alongside "joint U.S. and ROK Marine forces" and "city-wide assaults to reclaim occupied territory" (Call of Duty, read Oct 25, 2026), and Counter Attack is where the campaign delivers both. KeenGamer's walkthrough describes it as the allied push to retake Hajin City, starting on the coastline with a battalion of armor, after the city fell in Mission 1: Mayhem and Mission 5: Losing Ground. Sgt. Jae is So Jae-Woo, a South Korean Marine sergeant played by Jae Kim (Dexerto, read Oct 25, 2026). The clip shows the first wave of amphibious vehicles launching, and the squad's vehicle sinking short of the beach.

Walkthrough
Follow Sgt. Jae to the beach exit. Stay close to Jae. GamesRadar+ found that straying too far from your commander on the beach kills you instantly, with a tooltip telling you to follow your squad leader, and criticized it in its review. KeenGamer says the landing turns into an ambush; keep moving with Jae rather than stopping to fight everything on the sand.
Secure the enemy hardpoint. Past the beach, the squad takes a fortified enemy position. TheGamer advises clearing the enemies around the next objective before crossing exposed ground. KeenGamer says you pick up a Target Scope from a fallen soldier here and mark targets for the support vehicles, which destroy them; use it on anything heavy. In the clip Park marks targets and the vehicles destroy two machine gun nests and an enemy vehicle.
Support your squad. The push moves into the streets. KeenGamer describes an enemy tank destroyed along the way before the squad heads down the street toward the hotel.
Secure the hotel. Clear the hotel room by room with the squad. Infinity Ward's launch patch notes (Oct 21, 2026, updated Oct 24) fixed a progression blocker in this Hotel sequence, so if the mission stalled here during early access, update the game and load the checkpoint again (see Patch Notes).
Provide overwatch for allied forces. The mission ends with you on a sniper rifle covering the allies below. This is where Long Shot is earned.
Long Shot trophy
Long Shot asks you to "Snipe all 4 enemies firing the mortars in Counter Attack" (Insider Gaming, Oct 19, 2026). PowerPyx explains that the mortar crews come as two teams, one at a time, on different rooftops. Watch the rooftops during overwatch and take each team as it appears. It is a Silver trophy in PowerPyx's list. See Trophies and Achievements. The clip is the overwatch on the rooftop as enemy mortar fire starts coming in.
Choices and collectibles
Counter Attack has no collectibles (PowerPyx puts them all in Missions 3, 10 and 13), and no guide lists a story choice in it.
Reward
Finishing Counter Attack unlocks the "Dunn" Base Operator: Cpl. Joseph Dunn, the US Marine from the opening convenience store in Mayhem (Windows Central, Oct 17, 2026), played by William Lipton (Dexerto). Operators unlocked in the campaign are usable in Multiplayer and DMZ. See Operators and Campaign Rewards and Difficulty.
